These photos show an assortment of residential projects in suburban Arizona.
Challenge:
Create thriving ecosystems in residential neighborhoods to regenerate habitat and reduce the carbon footprint of residents.
Solutions:
Much of the focus is on rainwater harvesting, hardscapes, and drought tolerant and productive plantings. Roof runoff is captured in rainwater tanks, which is used for both an emergency water supply and supplemental irrigation. Dry stacked stone-walls create microclimate planting beds for diversifying production. Edible, native and drought tolerant plants create habitat and shelter for wildlife and residents.
